Quito - June 21 and 22

DESENDING BETWEEN THE ANDEAN PEAKS WE FOUND THE RUNWAY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CITY OF QUITO. QUITO-TO, THE ORIGINAL NAME OF THE CITY, MEANS ¨MIDDLE OF THE EARTH¨IN THE ANCIENT TSAFIQUE LANGUAGE.

#32 AT HOTEL DE SAN FRANCISCO HAD 360% VIEWS  OVER OLD QUITO.

SANTO DOMINGO CHURCH

TREASURES OF COLONIA CHURCHES,  PAINTINGS, SCULPTURES AND BEAUTIFUL PLAZAS GRACE THIS  MOUNTAINOUS CITY. WE DID OUR BEST, TAKING A WALKING TOUR, TO SEE THE CITY. OUR FAVOURITE OVERALL VIEW WAS FROM THE BASILLICA, BUILT IN 1890, MODELED AFTER NOTRE DAME. THE DIFFERENCE BEING THE GARGOYLES ARE CONDORS, IGUANAS, AND TURTLES!

THE PLAZA DE LA INDEPENDENCIA  IS SURROUNDED BY FOUR MAIN BUILDINGS: THE GOVERMENT PALACE, WHERE WE ATE WITH OUR NEW, NEW ZEALAND FRIENDS  QUERIDEA  AND GRAEME ON MONDAY EVENING, MUNICIPAL PALACE, ARCHBISHOP PLAZA, AND THE CATHEDRAL.
